Day One: Welcome

Welcome, dear friend, to Castle Writemore!  Land of knights, trolls, wizards, and a two-headed goat.

This is your room.  Do you like it?  It is a little bit chilly in the morning, but it has a terrific view. Best of all, you can decorate it however you like.

Write about what your castle bedroom looks like. What's in the room?

What is outside the castle window? Use your imagination and describe what you see.

Teacher Tips...

Goal: Write three or more sentences which describe the view from an imaginary castle window.

Some learners may find it easy to imagine what they see outside the castle window. Others may need help in the form of questions.

Is there grass around the castle? Are there trees? What is the weather like? Are there any other buildings besides the castle?

Ask about colors. (Maybe the grass isn't green in this fantasy world.) Ask about what animals and/or creatures they see.

If the learner would prefer a more realistic approach, you could have them look out an actual window and write about some of the details they see.

Remember: The "Castle Writemore" course is all about encouraging an active imagination, and expressing it through writing and/or storytelling.

Learners can participate by writing in a journal or on the computer. However, some may prefer to talk about their ideas. Others might want to participate by drawing pictures. There are many different ways to develop a "storyteller's mind."

Have fun and encourage imagination!
